Where The Wild Beasts Roam Marks First Anniversary With Wildlife Planning Built From 14 Years in the Field

Where The Wild Beasts Roam has reached its first anniversary as a wildlife and scenic planning map for Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

The project brings more than 14 years of firsthand wildlife observation, photography, field notes, and pattern-watching by Packy Savvenas, known as the Greek Mountain Man, into a resource built to help visitors answer one of the first questions of a wildlife day:

Where should we go first?

The map combines delayed wildlife observations, species and area filters, field notes, route-planning tools, and selected places to explore. Wildlife information may be delayed or made less exact when needed, helping visitors understand recent patterns without turning an individual animal into a destination.

The project grew from years of returning to Yellowstone and Grand Teton through changing seasons, weather, traffic, light, and wildlife movement. That field experience eventually became a digital planning tool designed to help visitors make a better first move while leaving room for the wild to decide what happens next.

“I built Where the Wild Beasts Roam to give people a better first move into that country, then leave room for the wild to write the rest of the story.”

The first-anniversary press release also looks at the work behind the platform, including its product strategy, user experience, custom map, route-planning flow, field content, photography, website development, and ongoing testing.

It also introduces an upcoming book from Savvenas about the animals, field experiences, and personal stories that shaped his years as the Greek Mountain Man and eventually led to the creation of Where The Wild Beasts Roam.

The map is one year old.

The work behind it began more than 14 years ago.
